The BBC offers two different red button services that you access by pressing the red button on your remote control when on a BBC channel. Red Button – contains both text-based services and additional television streams. This is for those televisions not connected to the internet.
Simply head to BBC ONE and hit the red button on your remote, bringing up the interactive menus. Select sport from the drop down menu and then the match of your choice. The service on Sky, Virgin Media and Smart TVs uses streaming from BBC iPlayer, so be aware that you need to make a free account before you can watch.

Is BBC Red Button on Freeview?
You can check the online red button schedule or use the EPG on your television and look for the BBC Red Button 1 channel: Freesat – 980. Freeview – 601. Sky – 981.
Can BBC detect you watching TV?
If TV Licensing believes you’re watching ‘live TV’ or using BBC iPlayer without a licence, enquiry officers may pay you a visit. They can’t enter your home without permission, but can apply for a search warrant to do so. They may also use detection equipment such as vans and handheld detectors.
Can you pause BBC Red Button?
You can use the enter/select or pause button on your remote to pause the programme. The same enter/select button, or the play button will resume.
Can you watch BBC iPlayer in real time?
You can watch live streams and programmes on BBC iPlayer, BBC News and BBC Sport (when available) as they’re being broadcast on television or online. You can also watch recorded video clips at any time.
Does BBC iPlayer show live?
All of our TV channels and S4C are available to watch live through BBC iPlayer, although some programmes may not be available to stream online due to rights.
How long before a live show is on iPlayer?
It can take up to four times the length of the live programme for it to become available.
How do I watch football on BBC Red Button?
Upon pressing Red on a BBC channel, the Red Button service will launch then users can simply navigate across to the Sport section, press down and select ‘Sport Home’.
Alongside featured games being shown live on Sky Sports Football, selected games will be available live for Sky Sports customers on the Sky Sports Football Red Button.

For Sky Q customers, the matches on the Red Button will be available in HD quality and the service comes at no extra cost. All games, including those on the Red Button, will also have their own commentators. Midweek matches are also available to NOW Month members.
If you’ve got a NOW Smart Box with Freeview, you can use Red Button and interactive services on live BBC channels. Just hit the red button on your NOW remote to get started.
You’ll find the red button programmes on channel 527 (BT Sport Extra). They should also show up in your programme searches, or if you filter on ‘Sport’.
Owners of Humax Freesat boxes will be able to access the BBC iPlayer catch up service directly via the red button on their remote control from today.
How do they know if your watching live TV?

Recording Red button programmes
Some football listings let you choose from two available games on the same channel. You can record either of these games by finding the event in the TV Guide or Sports, pressing Record, highlighting the individual match you want to record, and pressing Record again.
