Is it safe to swim in Echo Lake?
We recommend that people and pets do not swim in the lake, drink lake water, or engage in other water-contact activities. Note that bacteria monitoring has ended for 2021.
Why is it called Echo Lake?
City parks superintendent Joseph Henry Tomlinson chose the name because of echoes he heard during the construction of Echo Park Lake in 1892. I imagine that before it was filled with water, the rocky pit would have been a good place to enjoy your own vocal reverberations.
