Dogs are welcome on all our trains except Dining trains and some Special Events (see individual event pages for restrictions) provided they are kept off the seats and tables. A dog ticket is £3.00 (Free if you are a Member) and have the same validity as the owner’s ticket.

Is Bluebell Railway dog friendly?

Yes, dogs are welcome at the Bluebell Railway on our standard travel services. During Special Events there may be some restrictions, so please check before travelling.

Yes, your well-behaved dog is welcome on Northern trains, however, do double check when booking your ticket. Northern can refuse to accept your dog, under the railway bylaws.

There are a few rules that you’ll need to abide by as per the National Rail Conditions of Travel: Dogs cannot occupy train seats. Dogs must be kept on a lead throughout the entire journey and when at stations, unless they’re in a pet carrier.

A dog carried in a dog box is charged at luggage rates applicable to the train at 30 kg per pet dog. Dogs can also be carried in AC first class and first class at luggage rate for 60 kg per dog. Where can dogs go in Whitby?

Whitby has beaches on both sides of the River Esk. On the east side is the smaller Tate Hill, a sheltered sandy beach that allows dogs all year round. On the other side of West Pier is West Cliff, a larger sandy beach with colourful beach huts, deckchair and windbreak hire, a children’s paddling pool and donkey rides.

Can you take dogs into York Minster?

York Minster is also a must-see. And although dogs aren’t allowed inside the magnificent cathedral, it can easily be admired from afar because it towers over the city. The same can be said for the ancient City Walls, which encircle the heart of York.
