The Boodles May Festival will return 10 – 13 May, followed by 12 exhilarating race day through to Saturday 14 October. On Saturday 5 November 2022, Chester Racecourse’s iconic Lord Mayor’s Fireworks Extravaganza will return to the Roodee. Enjoy firework displays, live entertainment, fairground rides and more.

Chester Racecourse’s first fixture of the year is now a little under four months away. There are a total of 15 race meetings pencilled in at the historic racecourse during 2022. The Boodles May Festival City Day on May 4 is the first of the year.

What day is Chester races?
Saturday 9th July and Saturday 20th August will make the most of the Great British summer, with two of Chester’s busiest race days of the season, City Plate Day and Ladies Day respectively. 2022’s racing season will then later see the return of its September Season Finale.
Can you take beer into Chester races?
A moderate amount of alcohol (two cans of beer or half a bottle of wine per person) can only be brought on to the Open Course via car. No alcohol may be brought onto the site by foot. All alcohol brought onto the site by racegoers must be consumed in the car park picnic area.
Do you have to wear a suit to Chester races?
Gentlemen are required to wear a well-tailored suit or a blazer with smart trousers, together with a shirt, collar and tie. Ladies are required to wear smart dress. No denim jeans of any colour, no trainers, no shorts, no sportswear and no fancy dress will be permitted.
Can you use cash at Chester races?
The Open Course will only accept cash. Despite the wide acceptance of digital payments at the racecourse, we do still advise racegoers to bring cash with them just in case of technical issues with card payment terminals.
