Yes, you’re very welcome to bring a picnic when visiting the zoo. Please use our picnic areas and where possible, take your waste home with you for responsible disposal. The indoor picnic lodge is open.
Is Chester Zoo worth it in the rain?
You can easily spend a full day at the zoo, and when the rain is pouring there aren’t many places you can do that in the rain (we were there 10-3.30 on Sunday). There are plenty of indoor cafes to hide away from the rain if you need a break, and there are even inside picnic areas if you want to take your own food.

Generally, you can get tickets on the gate costing £24 per adult and £20 per child, although you’re entitled to a saving of up to 12% with a family ticket.
Can you take water into Chester races?
Customers may bring food and soft drinks in sealed plastic containers onto the Open Course. Customers can bring a picnic, with a moderate amount of alcohol to accompany it, into the designated Car Park Picnic Area. However, this area cannot be accessed on foot, or by taxi.
Can you take your own alcohol to the races?
Racegoers on the inside of the track, on the Hill, Lonsdale, Upper Tattenham or in the Bus Enclosures, are permitted to bring their own food and a responsible amount of drinks (½ bottle of wine per person or 4 cans of beer).
