All members of the public are welcome to attend the Library’s public programs, subject to any occupancy limits and, where applicable, ticketing requirements.
Can anyone visit the New York Public Library?
Monday-Saturday: 11 am and 2 pm (The tour is one hour in duration). Double-check tour times on their website New York Public Library Tours for any last-minute changes. Note: There are no tours on Sunday. Also, the Schwarzman Building is closed on Sundays in July and August.

Can you get into the New York Public Library for free?

Cards are free for anyone who lives, works, attends school, or pays property tax in New York State. Out-of-state visitors can apply for a temporary card.
Can you go to the New York public library without a card?

Can you just walk into a library?
You can walk in and browse through and use the books and most materials at any public library (at least in the United States). It is not necessary to make an appointment. In most public libraries, you just walk in and find a place to sit.

Can I take a nap in the library?
Many libraries do allow people to sleep during hours the building is open, as long as they’re quiet and respectful and don’t disturb other patrons with loud snoring, Policies vary, though, and some libraries don’t allow it. Hard to enforce, unless someone complains.
Can I use the library to study?
Studying in a Library. If you are experiencing trouble focusing in your home environment, you may consider studying at your campus or public library. Libraries are institutions set aside for learning; as such, they offer an academic and studying-friendly environment where you can focus on your studies.
How do you not act like a tourist in NYC?
- Do fold your pizza down the middle.
- Do not wait for the crosswalk sign to walk.
- Do walk quickly, with your head down.
- Do not get in an empty subway car, especially during rush hour.
- Do not eat at a chain restaurant or in Times Square.
- Do avoid eating in Little Italy.
- Do not wear a ‘scrunchie’ or an ‘I ❤ NY’ T-shirt.
Are visitors allowed in NYU?
Requirements to Visit Campus. All visitors, vendors, and affiliates must: Be sponsored by an NYU student, faculty member, or employee. Visitors and Vendors must be sponsored in NYU’s visitor management system by a current NYU employee, faculty member, or student.
Can Columbia students attend NYU library?
Students, faculty and staff of Columbia University and of the Columbia affiliates (Barnard College, Teachers College, and Union Theological Seminary) are eligible.
Can New School students use NYU library?
NYU Bobst Library is the largest consortium library and no appointment is necessary. New School visitors may borrow items, use the guest WiFi network, and access electronic books, journals, and databases on-site (with the exception of most business databases).
Where can you sit to read in a library?
A physical library table is called a library table – it’s essentially a solidly made table where two or more people can sit comfortably and read or study, and often has a lamp and/or outlets built in.
Can you stay all day in a library?
Certainly. As a Librarian, I would be happy to have you in the library all day. Check the patron code of conduct. Stay quiet and respectful of everyone else.
What is not allowed in library?
Smoking, eating, sleeping and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the library. Documents taken out of the shelves must be left on the table. Replacing the books on shelves is not encouraged as it may get misplaced. Misplaced book is like a lost book.
Can I sleep in library overnight?
Although the Library is open 24/7, please take regular breaks and go home to get enough sleep. Sleeping in the Library is not permitted and Security staff will ask you to leave.
Can I drink coffee in a library?
Food and drink are allowed in public areas of the library under the following conditions: Drinks are limited to those in closed containers such as covered cups, cans, or water bottles. Wrapped snacks are permitted such as chips, cookies, and candy. Other foods are not considered snack food and are not allowed.
Where can I nap in public?
