The zoo train, in its various incarnations, has provided over 2 million rides to zoo visitors. Both trains operate on the zoo’s 4,200-foot rail circuit. Train rides cost $2.25 per person. Riders purchase tokens at a kiosk that are handed to the conductor before boarding.
How long does it take to walk through Birmingham Zoo?
While the B’ham Zoo has a number of interesting exhibits to see, 3 hours should be sufficient to cover the zoo grounds.
Do you have to wear a mask at the Birmingham Zoo?

Is Birmingham Air Rail Link free?
Birmingham Airport is directly connected to over 100 towns and cities via Birmingham International Station and the ‘Air-Rail Link’ monorail system. The free Air-Rail Link takes two minutes to get to the station and operates between 03:30 and 00:30 hours daily.
Is Birmingham or Montgomery Zoo bigger?
The Birmingham Zoo is Alabamans largest zoo with 122-acre’s, 230 species and roughly 950 animals at any given time. Coming in second is Montgomery Zoo which host over 500 animals and is situated on 42 beautiful acres. The Montgomery Zoo is a great destination and often host events through out the year.
Is it better to go to the zoo in the morning or afternoon?
Visit the National Zoo early in the morning
If you want to see animals, we definitely recommend going at dawn or at dusk. Midday is hot and its when the animals take their naps. One good thing about visiting the National Zoo during the summer though is there are misters throughout the zoo that are super fun for kids.

What can I not bring to the Zoo?
For the safety of other Zoo guests and our animals, glass containers, weapons, alcohol, bikes, skates and skateboards, rollerblades, radios/CD players, whistles, and inflatable objects are not allowed on Zoo grounds.
What should you not wear to the Zoo?
The most common clothing advisory is to not wear anything too loose. This doesn’t mean you can’t wear oversized shirts or pants, but that you shouldn’t wear anything that dangles off of your body. Again, this is a safety precaution. Clothing that’s too large can be grabbed or bitten by the animals in the zoo.
