Are Brittany Ferries dog friendly?

Can I stay with my dog on a ferry?
Ferries typically offer two options for taking your dog abroad. Firstly, they may be locked in your car on the cargo hold during your journey. Alternatively, they may be placed into the on-board kennels. Not all ferries offer both services, and there is typically a charge for either option.
Can my dog come on the ferry with me?
Most ferries companies do allow you to bring your pets with you for a small fee. You can enter your pets’ details when searching for ferry tickets.
Can I take my dog on Brittany Ferries as a foot passenger?
No, you cannot take a pet if you are travelling as a foot passenger, nor if you are travelling with a bicycle or a motorcycle. If you have to travel with an assistance dog, please contact us to discuss your options.
Do dogs have to wear muzzles on Brittany Ferries?
Yes, your dog must be muzzled and on a lead whenever they are outside their owner’s vehicle, during check-in and during any transfers on board e.g. between the car decks and your pet-friendly cabin or kennels and between the pet-friendly cabin/kennel and the pet exercise area.
What happens to dogs on Brittany Ferries?
They can either travel in a pet-friendly cabin (where your pet can stay with you during the sailing), in onboard kennels or in your vehicle. On ships where there are no kennels or pet-friendly cabins your pet must remain in your vehicle.
How do you calm a dog down on a ferry?
Bringing a familiar blanket or toy along on the journey can help pets feel at ease. Dog or cat pheromone sprays can help to have a calming effect on anxious pets. For extremely stressed pets, prescription medications are available but these should be used sparingly.
Does my dog need a muzzle on the ferry?
IMPORTANT: Dogs are required to wear a muzzle when outside of their owner’s vehicle: during check-in and during transfer between your vehicle and the kennel or a specially adapted cabin (depending on the ship), as well only at any time during outings in the exercise areas.
What is a dog Lodge on a ferry?
Dog lodges are situated on the Promenade Deck. Not only will the dog lodge allow access to your pet throughout the crossing but you can also exercise them under controlled conditions. Pets, other than guide, hearing or assistance dogs, are not permitted onboard in the passengers areas.
Can dogs get out of car on ferry?
As your dog is highly unlikely to be able to leave the vehicle once sailing, this can help if your dog has any accidents during the journey. Having familiar items near him/her can help make them feel more comfortable, e.g. your dogs favourite toys. Your dog will need access to water throughout the journey.

Travelling with your pet
As part of the DEFRA Pet Travel Scheme (PETS), we provide safe transportation for your pets onboard our ferries. On our Dover to Calais and Dover to Dunkirk ferry crossings, pet bookings must be made in advance of travel and there is a charge of £15 per pet each way.

You will need to present your dog’s passport, Animal Health Certificate, and/or tapeworm certification according to the above-mentioned rules. You will not typically be asked to take your dog out of the vehicle, but you will be asked to scan your dog’s microchip, which you can do yourself using the handheld device.

Pets are accepted on all Transatlantic crossings, except the first and last crossings of the year. Availability is limited, so plan to book your cruise well in advance. The cost of transportation will be given to you at the time you make your own booking but will likely range between $800 and $1,000 USD.

Can you walk coast to coast with a dog?
A. It’s perfectly possible to do the coast to coast with a dog. When I did it, one of our group had a dog with them. We did it camping all the way, but your options might be more limited if you want other accommodation.
How do dogs go to the bathroom on a sailboat?
Almost every boat with a dog has a piece of carpet or Astroturf somewhere on deck as the designated “spot.” (See our favorite from Amazon, as it’s designed to be rinsed off.)
Can Brittany dogs be left alone?
Brittanys are not comfortable being alone. They are susceptible to separation anxiety. With training, they will tolerate short amounts of time alone, but it leaving a Brittany alone for hours at a time is unfair and will likely result in unwanted behaviors.
Are brittanys good with other dogs?
Brittanys also make excellent hunting companions or pets for single people. Most get along very well with other dogs, and many love the challenges of different types of competition.
