Is DofE good for university?

Your DofE Award is a fantastic way to demonstrate and evidence these skills in practice.

All the work you do for the DofE counts towards the Chief and Queen Scout Awards so you might as well get two awards for doing the same work? It is internationally recognised by many employers and Universities (it even counts as UCAS points) but most of all its fun!

Can you fail DofE?
You cannot fail a DofE Expedition. However at the end of a practice expedition we occasionally have to recommend that some groups undertake further training and practice to ensure that they are fully prepared to safely undertake an unaccompanied qualifying expedition.

Does Oxbridge care about DofE?
again it doesn’t harm your application but for oxbridge i don’t think it has any impact really (apart from showing you do other things apart from work). a st annes admission tutor told me “we don’t care how many Dof E awards you’ve got”.
Can you get into Oxford without DofE?
Oxford and other Russel Group universities require academic excellence in order to be admitted to their courses. If you don’t achieve top grades in your A levels, you won’t be going to a Russel group university, no matter if you have the the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or not.
Is DofE Silver worth it?
Silver DofE is where the DofE qualification becomes much more impressive. It shows higher levels of commitment and the expeditions are notably tougher. With a Silver DofE Award you can start to talk much more confidently about the transferrable skills you learned during your Award, with the qualification to back it up.

Is DofE bronze hard?
Participants need to be 14 for bronze level, 15 for silver and 16 – 24yrs for the gold level. It is a rigorous, challenging award and hard work, with strong commitment required to complete all levels. Having said that you can just ‘go for gold’ if preferred, which seems to be a popular route today.

The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is worth getting, like the awards of many other organisations such as the Scouts and St Johns among others. It shows a person has commitment and drive. These qualities can make a person stand out to an employer or to a college/University.

How far do you walk on DofE? The distance you walk per day on DofE varies between awards. A standard distance to walk is 16km per day on Bronze, 19km per day on Silver, and 23km per day on Gold. Naturally, some groups will do less than this, and others more.
Is Silver DofE harder than bronze?
It was so much easier than bronze because you do know what to expect and you’ve done it before and you can just get on with it better. It was much more enjoyable and one extra day camping isn’t even that bad!!
Can you cheat DofE?
The easiest, and likely most common, way of failing your expedition is by using your phone without permission. A major aspect of DofE expeditions involves map and compass navigation — if your assessors believe you have been using GPS, this will likely be considered cheating.
Can I wear jeans on DofE?
Remember – avoid cotton and denim! They let heat escape, get heavy when wet and dry slowly, so no jeans or joggers. All Duke of Edinburgh’s Award recommended technical clothing is breathable and lightweight.
Can I get into uni with 120 UCAS points?
According to reports from UCAS, most business-related courses require BBB at A-Level which brings a total of 120 UCAS points. On the other hand, law related courses will usually ask for ABB at A-Level which amounts to 128 UCAS points.
