You get 6 weeks leave a year (very generous – 2 weeks Easter, Christmas and summer) and if alongside in your base port then weekend leave is usually granted from Friday 12:00. For 2 weekend out of 4 you are usually duty – however you could swop, do a 3 day duty weekend, and get 3 weekends off a month!
Unfortunately, being stationed together is not guaranteed, but all branches have a form of a Join Spouse program that tries to keep spouses together or within 100 miles of each other. That way you’ll actually have the potential to see one another on off-duty days.
What branch pays the most?
The Army offers the highest base pay, while the Air Force offers more opportunities for special pay. So, it really depends on what you’re looking for in a military career. If you want to make the most money possible, then the Army is probably the best branch for you.
Specific underway schedules can vary widely. Normally ships will go to sea for 10 days to 2 weeks each month for training operations in preparation for deployment. Extended operations away from home port can last up to 6 to 9 months, and ships typically deploy once every 18-24 months.
