How long does it take for an Oyster card to arrive?
Once your photo, passport image and/or your Post Office letter have been accepted, your 16+ Zip Oyster photocard will usually arrive within two weeks. To apply for a 16+ Zip Oyster photocard, create or sign in to your photocard web account.
Can I buy a Visitor Oyster card when I arrive in London?
You can buy a Visitor Oyster card* online before you travel to London. It will be posted to your home address. This means you arrive in London with your travel ticket ready to start exploring the city. You cannot buy a Visitor Oyster card when you arrive in London.
Can you get an Oyster card as a tourist?
A Visitor Oyster card costs £5 (plus postage) and is pre-loaded with pay as you go credit for you to spend on travel. You can choose how much credit to add to your card: £10, £15, £20, £25, £30, £35, £40 or £50.

Why have I not received my Oyster card?
If you have chosen 1st class delivery and it has not arrived, you need to let us know so we can stop the card. If we are satisfied that you have not received it a new Oyster card will then be sent to you. This will be sent by 1st class post, or you can request a refund of the original price paid.

Is a Visitor Oyster card the same as an Oyster card?
There are 2 different types of Oyster Cards: a Visitor Oyster Card and a Regular Oyster Card. They function in essentially the same way, but with a few key differences. For example, both cards operate on a pay-as-you-go basis, but only the Regular Oyster Card can also load travelcards, which are 1 or 7 day passes.
Can I top up a Visitor Oyster card online?
Download the TfL Oyster app to check your balance, add credit to your Oyster card, and buy 7 Day, Monthly and Annual Travelcards. If you have an Oyster card and are a UK resident, you can set up an Oyster online account and top up your card online. You can’t top up Visitor Oyster cards online.

You must have a contactless and Oyster online account to use the app. The app will only work with contactless cards and/or Oyster cards; not Oyster photocards or other smartcards. You can only use the app if your Oyster card shows a ‘D’ symbol in the bottom left of the reverse side, as shown in the below image.

What happens if you forget to scan Oyster card?
Please wait at least 48 hours as you might receive an automatic refund: Oyster – we’ll automatically add it to your card the next time you touch in or out of a rail journey. Contactless – the refund will show on your next card statement, or we will adjust the fares charged when you next travel.
What happens if you don’t tap your Oyster card?
If you don’t touch in and out, we can’t tell where you’ve travelled from or to, so your journey will be incomplete. Maximum fares don’t count towards capping. If you don’t touch in, you may be charged a penalty fare.
Can I use my Oyster for 2 people?
If you only have pay as you go credit on your Oyster card, you can lend it to someone else. Two people can’t use the same contactless or Oyster card for a journey. If you have a Travelcard, Bus & Tram Pass or discount added to your Oyster card, you can’t lend it to someone else.
What is the maximum you can spend on an Oyster card per day?
Capping varies based on the zones you travel in, but for example, for peak travel in Zones 1 & 2, the maximum daily fee is £7.40 (as of September 2021). So no matter how many times you travel on public transport using your Oyster card in London’s zones 1 and 2, you will never be charged more than £7.40 a day.
Can I use my 60 Oyster card to Heathrow Airport?
