LADO invitees will be asked to detail and describe you and your role with children, and whether there have been any previous allegations or concerns made against you. It is the expectation that your employer/agency seeks and fairly represents your views and response to the allegations made against you.
What is a lado process?
Any allegation against a person who works with children should be reported immediately to a senior manager within the organisation. The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) should be informed within one working day of all allegations that come to an employer’s attention or that are made directly to the police.

The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) works within Children’s Services and gives advice and guidance to employers, organisations and other individuals who have concerns about the behaviour of an adult who works with children and young people.

Adult LADO responsibilities
The Adult LADO: Will make an initial assessment and will consider if anyone is at immediate risk of potential harm or exploitation. If the risk is high, they will make an informed decision to contact the employer and discuss appropriate risk management plans.
How long does Lado take to investigate?
This must be done without delay and should be coordinated with the LADO process. The investigating officer should aim to provide a report within 10 working days.
How long does it take for lado to respond?
The Duty LADO will call you back on receiving the referral form or within at least within 24 working hours. After a discussion with the referrer, a decision will be made as whether the to LADO threshold is met or not, and guidance will be given about next steps.

Notice of Allegation means a notice in writing issued by the Secretary to a Charged Member on the instruction of the Board. How long does a safeguarding assessment take?

The assessment can take place within your family home, our offices or somewhere else depending on the situation of your child. This assessment should be completed within 45 working days of the referral being accepted by Children’s Services.
What happens after a safeguarding referral is made?
When the enquiry is finished in most cases we will organise a final safeguarding meeting. The adult at risk will always be invited to safeguarding meetings about them and they can bring someone with them to help support them.
The helpline team will make a report and share information with social services. They might also contact local police if the child is in immediate danger. If the helpline don’t need to make a referral, they’ll give you advice on what you can do or information on local services.
