Is A * Ab The Same As Aaa?

Whilst A*AB is the same as AAA in terms of UCAS points (a score of 144), universities are under no obligation to accept candidates with grades that don’t match their entry requirements. To understand the system better, it’s worth explaining how UCAS points are calculated.

Is AAA equal to A * AB?

Not directly, no. As in, if you have an offer of AAA but actually achieve A*AB, you won’t be automatically accepted. However, you’ve only missed your offer by one grade, and you’ve made up some elsewhere… it’s definitely worth calling the university and asking whether they can accept you anyway.

Can I get into uni with a * AC?

In theory, yes. But in practice, there are shades of grey. Sometimes a course may be asking for AAB and that will be the absolute minimum the uni will consider when you get your results. Some will be looking for those grades or equivalent – so an alternative set of grades like A*AC may suffice.

IS A * AA the same as a * a * b?

Although it is the same in points terms, A*A*B is not as good as A*AA because the latter asks for a baseline of A across all subjects and A*A*B does not provide this.

What does AAA ABB mean?

Each degree has specific grades that you must achieve to be considered for a place. We normally express these as a range of grades, for example, AAAA to ABBB for Scottish Highers, or AAA to ABB for A Levels. The highest of these grades is referred to as the ‘upper grade level’, and the lower as the ‘lower grade level’.

Do Unis accept a * ab instead of AAA?

It depends if they wanted AAA as the grades, or the points. If it’s the latter you should be accepted, as A*AB equates as the same. If it’s the grades, there’s a possibility they’ll let you in, but it depends.

Can I get into an AAA course with a * a * b?

Most unis that don’t use the tariff method(which is almost all russell group universities) will say A*AB is not equivalent to AAA even though it is the same, points wise. So they have no obligation to accept you if they give you that offer and you achieve those results.

Can you get into Oxford with A * A * A?

Offers for Oxford places are between A*A*A and AAA at A-level, depending on the course. (See course pages.) See a list of Oxford courses with conditional offers including at least one A*.

Can you get into Cambridge with A * A * A?

The entry requirements for its most competitive courses, including Medicine, Computer Science and Architecture, are A*A*A-A*AA. Unlike many other universities, Cambridge also looks at your previous academic track record when deciding who to offer places to.

Can you get into Oxford with a * AB?

Oxford with A*AB? If the offer from Oxford would be AAA they are unlikely to accept you with A*AB (from experience of friends A2 results!) and so if you are to apply I reckon you would need to at least retake a History module or two (how far were you from an A in that?) to try and improve your grades.

Can I apply to UCL with a * AB?

We welcome applications from students offering A Levels and other equivalent qualifications. Our entrance requirements are based on three A Levels. Depending on the degree programme, we make standard offers in the range A*A*A–ABB.

Is C+ a good grade?

Is a * BB same as AAB?

In terms of UCAS points AAB = A*BB. But in terms of meeting an AAB requirement you are correct, an A* elsewhere in your subjects doesn’t offset the fact that the B misses the A offer requirement.

Can I get into medicine with a * AB?

To include Chemistry together with either Biology, Physics or Mathematics and a third academic subject. Alternatively A*AB also accepted but the A*A grades must include Chemistry together with either Biology, Physics or Maths; and a B grade required in the third academic subject.

What does a * mean in A Levels?

How is the A* awarded? The A* at A Level is awarded to candidates who achieve a grade A on the A Level overall (80%), and who also achieve at least 90% on the uniform mark scale (UMS) across their A2 units.

Do you need 3 A * for Cambridge?
