Check whether your local council will collect fridges and freezers. Or take to any household waste recycling centre. Old fridges and freezers are hazardous waste due to the gases they contain. The gases have to be recovered safely before the fridges and freezers can be recycled.

If you have a vehicle large enough to transport your mattress, you can take the mattress to the tip. However, it may just end up as a landfill, so you may prefer to pay up and let the council collect the mattress, or you might wish to take the mattress to a recycling centre.

Most tips or Local Recycling Centres, as they’re officially known, will happily accept your sofa and, where possible, will recycle or reuse as much of the sofa as possible.
Can you take pots and pans to the tip?
Pots and pans can’t be recycled from home, but if they’re in good condition, you can donate them to charity or pass them on using platforms like Olio, Freecycle or Gumtree, to name just a few. If they’re beyond use, recycle them at your local household waste recycling centre.
Can you put duvets in the tip?
Aside from the take back scheme below, duvets and pillows are generally not recyclable and should be disposed of in the waste bin or at a Recycling Centre. However, some animal charities may be able to use these items for bedding – check locally.

There is a charge for the car parks from Easter until September, and on Sundays and Bank Holidays. At other times parking is free. Check signs in the car park for full details. There are toilets at the Visitor Centre, at Banners Gate, and at the Wyndley Leisure Centre.
