How Long Is A Lesson At The Wave?

Our lessons are 1.5 hours long, with a 30 minute dry side lesson and 60 minutes in the water.

How long is a beginner lesson at The Wave?

Your lesson will include a full health and safety briefing every time you surf, thirty minutes dry land lesson including warm up activities and one hour in the lake. You’ll learn about water safety, surf equipment, body positioning and how to surf.

A normal surf session is about 1-2 hours. When you’re learning to surf, 2 hours will feel like a long time. If you last the full 2-hours on your first session, congrats! As you improve your conditioning and become a more efficient a paddler, surf sessions can last up to 4-5 hours.

Is The Wave Bristol any good?

It’s a great day out, especially if you go with family, a partner or mate(s) who surf. It’s not the same as surfing your local break but that’s kinda the point! My advice: if you’ve never surfed an artificial wave give it a go, it’s a fun experience.

Can you learn to surf in 2 hours?

Learning to surf requires between two hours and one month of practice. If you’re struggling for more than two months to ride a wave, then there’s something wrong with you. The first thing you’ll need to master is lying and balancing on a surfboard – that could take you between half-an-hour and two or three hours.

Is the wave a difficult?

This hike, while relatively short, can be extremely unforgiving, and even deadly if hikers do not come prepared and don’t pay attention. In July 2013 alone, three hikers died on the way back from the Wave. This hike is a route-finding challenge.

Do you have to wear a wetsuit at The Wave?

For beginners, wetsuits and helmets are compulsory for safety reasons – these and surf boards are provided in the cost of your lesson. Advanced and intermediate surfers are allowed to wear board shorts, along with one of our rash vests, in the warmer summer months.

With summer highs of up to 27°C (85°F) in the pool, comfortably surfing in boardshorts is now possible in the UK (though average is 17-24°C (64°F-80°F) for this time of the year). Winter can see water as cold as 5°C (42°F), but warm wetsuits and hot showers are provided on site.

Is 20 too late to learn to surf?

You’re never too old to surf, nor are you ever too old to learn to surf. In fact, the vast majority of our guests are in their 20s and 30s. We even have a few who are in their late teens. Really, the only prerequisites for learning to surf are determination and proper guidance.

Generally speaking the perfect size for beginners is 1 to 2ft. For intermediates: 2-4ft waves are best as it gives you more face of the wave to progress your skills on.

A moderate pace will have you burning between 500 and 800 calories per hour, depending on your weight.

Can you just swim at The Wave Bristol?

We do not currently offer any water-based activities except surfing and bodyboarding at The Wave. We may have special, one-off sessions for activities like swimming and diving in the future but no regular slots are planned just yet.

The waves range from 0.5 to almost 2 metres with an average length or ride ranging from 35m to 85m depending on the wave and skill of the surfer. The average duration of a ride is 10-13 seconds.

Is 40 too old to learn to surf?

Just like there is no age limit for surfing, there is no age limit for learning how to surf. It’s never too late to start! Regardless of your age, learning how to surf can be achieved with enough time and determination.

What age is best to learn surfing?

You can start surfing as early as 5 years old, but it is often best to start at around the age between 7-9. However, just because you didn’t start at that age, does not mean you can’t surf! There are certain surfing camps that have taught children as young as five years old.

Can a non swimmer learn surfing?

You don’t have to be a pro-swimmer but having a certain level of swimming ability is important when surfing. If you can’t swim, chances are you also won’t be able to paddle. Surfing involves a lot of paddling and without knowing how to paddle a surfboard, it will be difficult to catch a wave.

Can you get lost at The Wave?

It’s an unmarked trail in the middle of the desert. The way to the Wave is easier, the way back is a little more difficult. Some say about up to 30% in some months get lost. Get familiar with the provided map well in advance and use a GPS if you have one.

Do you need a 4×4 to visit The Wave?

You will need an 4WD vehicle, preferably with high clearance. This road can get washed out and pretty messy so take note of the other trailhead options in case this is impassable. The BLM will provide you with a map. If you were to go right from the trailhead to the Wave it’s about 3 miles.
