The A* at A Level is awarded to candidates who achieve a grade A on the A Level overall (80%), and who also achieve at least 90% on the uniform mark scale (UMS) across their A2 units.
What is 75% in a level?
If students have over 80% of UMS marks with an average of 90% across A2 modules they are awarded an A*, 80+% is also an A grade, 70-79% offers a B grade, 60-69% is C, 50-59% is D and 40-49% offers you the bottom pass E grade.

The next descriptor is called Merit. Students who score 55 or more but less than 75 achieve this grade. It is the most common grade to achieve – similar to a C grade in the old system. In fact, around 55 to 75% of the students received this grade in Maths in recent years.

Is 3a * at A level good?
You’re not put at any advantage against other applicants if you do more than 3 A-Levels. Almost all universities will only use 3 A-Levels to give you an offer and it’s better to do extremely well in 3 than fairly well in 5, because this would most likely limit your options slightly.
What is a pass at A level 2022?
A pass is indicated by one of six grades, A*, A, B, C, D or E, – where A and A* is the highest grade and E is the lowest. In order to meet the pass criteria, you must get an E grade or above on results day. If a student does not pass, it will show on their results sheet as “Not Classified” or similar.
