Chester Racecourse’s first fixture of the year is now a little under four months away. There are a total of 15 race meetings pencilled in at the historic racecourse during 2022. The Boodles May Festival City Day on May 4 is the first of the year.
What dates are the Chester Races 2022?
The Boodles May Festival will return 10 – 13 May, followed by 12 exhilarating race day through to Saturday 14 October. On Saturday 5 November 2022, Chester Racecourse’s iconic Lord Mayor’s Fireworks Extravaganza will return to the Roodee. Enjoy firework displays, live entertainment, fairground rides and more.

The racecourse is now officially recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the Oldest Racecourse in the world, still in operation. Chester is in fact a 365 days’ a year operation, attracting over 330,000 visitors annually at race day fixtures and non-race day events.
Why has racing at Chester been abandoned?
Racing was abandoned due to concerns from jockeys regarding the ground. The ground had been carefully prepared by an experienced grounds team, under the guidance of one of the most experienced Clerks of the Course in the industry.
Can you take beer into Chester races?
A moderate amount of alcohol (two cans of beer or half a bottle of wine per person) can only be brought on to the Open Course via car. No alcohol may be brought onto the site by foot. All alcohol brought onto the site by racegoers must be consumed in the car park picnic area.

Is Chester races cash only?
The Open Course will only accept cash. Despite the wide acceptance of digital payments at the racecourse, we do still advise racegoers to bring cash with them just in case of technical issues with card payment terminals. How long does Chester races last?
The three-day May meeting and the Sunday fixture in August attract huge crowds and it is advisable to arrive early.
Can I wear a jumpsuit to Chester races?
There is no strict dress code in this enclosure. It is however advisable to dress for the elements. Should you wish to upgrade your ticket to a Tattersalls ticket on the day, shorts, tracksuits, t-shirts and fancy dress will not be permitted.
