Below Alfriston Lock to the sea, there is excellent free estuary fishing for large mullet with the occasional bass and flounder. The Sussex Ouse, rising at Hor-sham and flowing through Sheffield Park and Lewes to join the sea at Newhaven, is tidal to a point well above Lewes.
