Parkrun (stylised as parkrun) is a collection of 5-kilometre (3.1 mi) events for walkers, runners and volunteers that take place every Saturday morning at more than 2,000 locations in 23 countries across six continents.
How do parkruns record your time?
You’ll notice at the start line and at the finish line that there will be two people with stopwatches. The stopwatches start with the RD saying go at the beginning of the race and every time someone crosses the finish line the timekeeping volunteers click a button to record a time and a finish position.
What is the average time for a parkrun?
The parkrun website reports that in 2005, the global average finish time for completing a parkrun was 22:17. However, in 2020, the average parkrun 5k time had jumped to 32:30, indicating this very point.

Can I listen to music during parkrun?
Can I run with my headphones and listen to music? We would rather you didn’t – it makes it difficult for our marshals to communicate with you. Our events have a special community feel, which you cut yourself off from when wearing headphones.

Many runners complete a 5K in 30 to 40 minutes, and many runners are satisfied with their time if it’s around this benchmark. The average walker finishes a 5K in 45 to 60 minutes.

Is it OK to run 5K every day?
Running is one of the best things you can do for your body, and running 5k every day is enough for most of the general physical and mental benefits of running without some of the potential downsides of overtraining or over doing things.
Can you wear headphones on parkrun?
We appreciate that some runners do feel naked without their music so they are not banned outright. We do ask that as a courtesy to the volunteers, you remove headphones from your ears during the safety briefing before the start, and on approaching the finish area.
How do people survive a 5K run?
Don’t wear any gear on race day that you haven’t worn on a run before. This means socks, shoes, leggings — everything.

How hard is parkrun?
There are no hard and fast rules but please bear in mind that this is a family-friendly event. There are no numbers to wear, no safety pins, no fuss, no bother. All you’ll need is your scannable barcode. Make your way to the start area and be ready to participate at your event’s specified start time.
Can you walk a parkrun?
Everyone is welcome at parkrun. parkrun is a running, jogging and/or walking event. No matter how fast or slow you are we are just delighted to see you taking part.

Can parkrun scan your phone?
Yes. However, we continue to encourage you to have a printed barcode and to carry it with you when you come along to parkrun. In the case of a serious incident a printed barcode enables us to identify a participant easily and usually displays emergency contact details.
Can I leave a bag at parkrun?
Most events do have an area for leaving kit, but please remember this is entirely at your own risk, but please do not leave valuables. We do not provide water and/or refreshments so you should take a water bottle with you, or leave one at the finish area.
Can I put my parkrun barcode on my Apple Watch?
run is a tool that lets you add your parkrun barcode to the Apple Wallet on your iPhone or Apple Watch. In November 2021 parkrun HQ announced that virtual barcodes were now acceptable at their events, and that a physical barcode was no longer mandatory.
