Can I use my phone instead of oyster?
Oyster is a physical card, not an app. You need one for everyone (maybe not for your daughter depending on age). If you have contactless cards or access to Apple or Android Pay you can use those instead of Oysters.
Can I use my iPhone to pay for the tube?
Paying for journeys on Transport for London is easier with Express Mode for Apple Pay. You no longer need to authenticate your payment with Face ID or Touch ID. Simply select a card for travel in Wallet. Then just tap your iPhone or Apple Watch on the yellow card reader and go.
Can you tap in and out on underground?
Where you touch in and out tells us where you’ve travelled from and to, so we can charge you the right fare for your completed journey. This is for all Tube, DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth line, National Rail, River Bus and IFS Cloud Cable Car journeys.

Is contactless cheaper than buying a ticket?
You can add money to an Oyster card or use contactless (card or device) straight away. You only pay for the journeys you make and it’s cheaper than buying a paper single or return ticket (train companies may offer special deals on some journeys).
Is it cheaper to use Oyster or contactless?
It’s the easiest and most convenient way to pay, is supported on every form of transport, and in most cases is either cheaper or the same price as using an Oyster card.
What happens if you don’t tap Oyster?
Please wait at least 48 hours as you might receive an automatic refund: Oyster – we’ll automatically add it to your card the next time you touch in or out of a rail journey. Contactless – the refund will show on your next card statement, or we will adjust the fares charged when you next travel.

How many times can you use contactless before it asks for your PIN?
Card issuers only allow five consecutive contactless transactions that can be made before a PIN is requested in order to prevent fraud. So if you only use your card for small payments make sure you can recall the PIN to avoid getting caught out at the till.
What happens if u forget to tap out?
Remember, you need a different card or device for each person travelling. If you touch-in but don’t touch-out at your destination stop, with the same card or device, we won’t know what journey you made. If this happens, you’ll automatically pay the incomplete journey fare.
What happens if I tap in twice?
It’s to stop people gaming the system. If you tap in at a station, you can’t pass your oyster card back to your mate behind, the system won’t accept two consecutive tap ins. However, it WILL accept them if the two are broken up by a tap out.
