Can I use debit card instead of Opal?
If your Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit or debit card shows the contactless payment symbol, you can use it to pay for your travel. You’ll pay an Adult Opal fare. Check with your card issuer if you’re not sure if your card is contactless-enabled or if it’s rejected.
Can you use contactless card on tram?

How do you pay for the tram in Belgium?
All our stations and the main bus and tram stops are equipped with GO vending machines. At these ticket machines you can buy paper transport tickets and reload your MOBIB card. Payment is possible in cash as well as with a bank card.
Can you tap your debit card on the train?

Just touch your debit or credit card on a yellow card reader to pay for your journey, the same as you would with your Oyster card, and you won’t have to queue for tickets at the station and won’t have to top up. Always remember to touch in and out.

You can add money to an Oyster card or use contactless (card or device) straight away. You only pay for the journeys you make and it’s cheaper than buying a paper single or return ticket (train companies may offer special deals on some journeys).
How many times can you use contactless before it asks for your PIN?
Card issuers only allow five consecutive contactless transactions that can be made before a PIN is requested in order to prevent fraud.
Is it cheaper to use contactless or Travelcard?
As a general rule a Travelcard is more expensive than an Oyster card or Contactless payment card. The exception is if you make 3 or more journeys for 6 days or more within a 7 day period. In this case a 7 day Travelcard works out cheaper than an Oyster or Contactless payment card.

What happens if you forget to tap on Opal?
If you do not either tap on or off correctly, the system will assume you travelled the furthest distance provided by the service you were on. You will be charged the default fare. The default fare is the highest fare for that service, based on your Opal card type. It is automatically deducted from your card balance.
