How do you pay for London Transport buses?
London buses are card only, so you cannot buy a ticket with cash. Use a Visitor Oyster card*, an Oyster card, a Travelcard or a contactless payment card to pay your fare. Unlike the Tube zone fare system, a single London bus journey costs £1.65 no matter how far you go.

Can you pay cash on buses UK?
You can pay on the bus with cash, contactless or a debit or credit card. We’re happy for you to use all major debit and credit card providers, like Visa, MasterCard. Unfortunately, you can’t buy a longer term bus passes on the bus.
Can I use paper Travelcard on bus?

You can use Travelcards on all buses. If your Travelcard is valid in Zones 3, 4, 5 or 6, you can use it on all trams.
What is the cheapest way to travel around London Underground?
1. Get an Oyster card. As you move around London you will spot locals tapping something against a yellow card reader at the underground turnstiles, on buses, trams, and even on the Thames Clipper Uber boat. This is an Oyster card, and it is an incredible 50% cheaper than buying single tickets or a paper travelcard.

What happens if I forget to tap off? You will be charged the single fare to the end of the route, so always remember to tap off in order to pay the correct fare.

It’s the easiest and most convenient way to pay, is supported on every form of transport, and in most cases is either cheaper or the same price as using an Oyster card.
Can I just tap my debit card on the underground?
If your bank card shows the contactless payment symbol, you can use it to pay as you go straight away. You’ll pay an adult rate fare.

Can you buy tickets on the bus UK?
You can buy single tickets on board from your driver (or even a local ticket agent in some areas). With contactless payments now available on all our buses, you don’t need to worry about finding the correct change!

Can I pay cash on bus TfL?
It costs £24 million a year to accept cash on London’s buses. The removal of cash fares will deliver £130m savings to 2022/23 and this will be reinvested in improving transport in the capital. Cash fares will not be accepted from 04:30 on Sunday 6 July, the start of TfL’s next fare charging period.
