If you are transferring from the Overground to the Tube or vice versa, make sure you tap on and tap off when transferring for your trip to be considered a single journey. Note that transfers to National Rail (not to be confused with Overground) will be considered a new trip.
Do I need to tap from underground to overground?

If you don’t touch in and out, we can’t tell where you’ve travelled from or to, so your journey will be incomplete. Maximum fares don’t count towards capping. If you don’t touch in, you may be charged a penalty fare.
Can you change from underground to overground?
You can switch between Tube and London Overground during your journey without paying another fare. This is calculated as a one continuous journey. The fare is calculated according to the time of day, the number of zones and whether the journey includes travel through the central zone 1.
Do you have to tap when changing trains?
Always touch in and out on a yellow card reader with your contactless payment card at the start and end of your journey (even if the gates are open) to ensure you pay the right fare. When changing trains you may need to touch your card on a pink reader. If you’re travelling on a bus or tram you only have to touch in.
Is overground and underground same?
The overground are more traditional trains as opposed to the metro style for the Underground. Overground is more of a ring around central London – it’s useful for avoiding going via central London if you don’t want to.
Is Overground and underground same price?
London Overground rail fares cost the same as Underground prices on Oyster, as the service also uses the TfL zone price range, making managing your travel costs much easier. Peak times on the Overground are also the same, with prices rising between 06:30 and 09:30 am, with a reduced cost thereafter.

What happens if you tap in but dont tap out?
Remember, you need a different card or device for each person travelling. If you touch-in but don’t touch-out at your destination stop, with the same card or device, we won’t know what journey you made. If this happens, you’ll automatically pay the incomplete journey fare.
How do you pay for the Overground?
You can use a Visitor Oyster card, Oyster card or contactless payment cards on all London Overground trains and most National Rail services that operate in Zones 1 to 9.
Do you tap on and off the train?
At the end of a journey you must ‘Touch-Off’ to ensure the correct fare is applied. If you don’t Touch-On you are committing fare evasion. If you don’t Touch-Off you will pay more.
