Who can enter the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition?
You may submit Work(s) to the Exhibition if: 3.1 You are the Artist or creator of the Work(s), or You are expressly authorised as a gallery, agent or other representative to submit the Work(s) on behalf of the Artist or are expressly authorised by the estate of a deceased Artist to do so.
How does the Summer Exhibition work?
The Summer Exhibition is the world’s oldest open submission exhibition – which means that anyone can enter their work to be considered for inclusion. It’s happened every year since 1769, and each year a Royal Academician, such as Yinka Shonibare RA, Grayson Perry RA and Jock McFadyen RA, coordinates the exhibition.

Is the Summer Exhibition free?

How many pieces do you need for an exhibition?
If you’re holding a solo exhibit meant to highlight your own work, you’ll need to have anywhere from 10-30 individual pieces to show. The theme of the exhibition should be represented in each production.
What do the red dots mean at the Summer Exhibition?
In 2012, the artist Cornelia Parker visited the Summer Exhibition and took a photograph of a popular print (reportedly by Tracey Emin) with the red dots stacked up besides it, indicating the number of prints sold when a edition of multiple prints is offered for sale.
How many entries RA Summer Exhibition?
Selection process
Today, around 1,000 works are selected each year from as many as 10,000 entries representing some 5,000 artists. Any artist (living, known or unknown) may submit up to two works at a fee of £35 per piece for selection by The Summer Exhibition Selection and Hanging Committee.

Do artists pay to exhibit?
Misconception: Artists have to pay to show their art at galleries. Reality: Not true. Some galleries might like you to believe that, but the artist/gallery relationship is like a partnership of sorts. Galleries provide their artists with space to exhibit their art and the artists provide the galleries with art.
Can I go to Royal Academy shop without buying a ticket?
Visits to our shops, cafés, free collections and free displays do not require a ticket; simply show up and enjoy yourself.
Do you have to pay to get into the Royal Academy?
There are no course fees. A key principle of the RA Schools is that our programme is free of charge to every applicant offered a place.
