How much does a student Oyster card cost?
Schools, colleges and universities must register on the TfL Scheme so their students can apply for an 18+ Student Oyster photocard. The registration fee is £25 (non-refundable). If your location is outside London, but your students regularly commute from a London borough, you may be eligible to register.

How do I put money on my student Oyster card?
You can use Oyster Cards in conjunction with season tickets, or on a pay-as-you-go basis. You can add money to (‘top up’) an Oyster card at various points such as tube stations and Oyster ticket stops. It is then possible to use the card on a pay-as-you-go basis, tapping it onto scanner each time you travel.

If you only have pay as you go credit on your Oyster card, you can lend it to someone else. Two people can’t use the same contactless or Oyster card for a journey. If you have a Travelcard, Bus & Tram Pass or discount added to your Oyster card, you can’t lend it to someone else.

The card gives a flat discount of 30% to students above the age of 18 years while traveling in buses and trams. After making an online application and confirmation received from your college, TFL (Transport for London) will issue your card within two to three weeks (14-21 days).
What happens if you only tap your Oyster once?
Please wait at least 48 hours as you might receive an automatic refund: Oyster – we’ll automatically add it to your card the next time you touch in or out of a rail journey. Contactless – the refund will show on your next card statement, or we will adjust the fares charged when you next travel.
