Will my Oyster card still work after 2 years?
There is no expiry date on Oyster cards.
Are old Oyster cards still valid?
Travelcard refunds are calculated on a pro-rata basis so you can keep using your Travelcard, on your first-generation Oyster card, until it expires and then swap to your new card. Once you’ve received your refund, your first-generation Oyster card will be stopped so no one can use it.
How can I check if my Oyster card is still active?
You can call TfL customer services on 0343 222 1234 (check call charges on its site); you’ll need to confirm you’re the registered owner of the Oyster card and provide the following details: Your Oyster card number. The answer to the security question you’d selected.
What happens if you don’t use your Oyster card?
Please wait at least 48 hours as you might receive an automatic refund: Oyster – we’ll automatically add it to your card the next time you touch in or out of a rail journey. Contactless – the refund will show on your next card statement, or we will adjust the fares charged when you next travel.
What happens to money on expired Oyster?

Can I get money from Oyster after it expires?

Is Oyster cheaper than contactless?
It’s the easiest and most convenient way to pay, is supported on every form of transport, and in most cases is either cheaper or the same price as using an Oyster card.
Can I reuse my Oyster card?
Visitor Oyster cards can be reused and never expire. If you run out of pay as you go credit, simply top up your credit at a Tube station ticket machine, Oyster Ticket Stop or Visitor Centre to use your card again.

You can load 7 day Travelcards onto an Oyster card and switch between Oyster Pay As You Go and Travelcard as your travel patterns change.
Can I get my Oyster card deposit back?
Claim a refund in person
If your remaining credit is £10 or less, you can get a refund for the credit, and any deposit, from a Tube station ticket machine. Your Oyster card will be cancelled when we process this refund.
Can I use my phone instead of Oyster card?
Oyster is a physical card, not an app. You need one for everyone (maybe not for your daughter depending on age). If you have contactless cards or access to Apple or Android Pay you can use those instead of Oysters.
What happens if you tap Oyster twice?
It’s to stop people gaming the system. If you tap in at a station, you can’t pass your oyster card back to your mate behind, the system won’t accept two consecutive tap ins. However, it WILL accept them if the two are broken up by a tap out. So to discourage that, there’s a hefty fee involved with doing so.
Can I still use my 11/15 Oyster card after it expires?
Once your child’s sanction has expired, you will need to apply for a new 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard that allows free travel on buses and trams. You will need to pay a non-refundable administration fee for this.
How much is Oyster refund?
At a London Underground ticket machine, you can get a refund of up to £10 pay-as-you-go credit. Simply touch your Oyster card on the yellow card reader on the ticket machine, select “Oyster refund” and follow the on-screen instructions.

Is Bus free on Oyster?
If you have a 16+ Zip Oyster photocard and live in London, you get free travel on buses and trams. If you live outside London, you get 50% off adult fares.
Can I use my bank card instead of Oyster?
If your bank card shows the contactless payment symbol, you can use it to pay as you go straight away. You’ll pay an adult rate fare.
