The M6 motorway runs from junction 19 of the junction and the A14 in Catthorpe near Rugby in central England. It passes Coventry, Birmingham, Stafford, Wolverhampton and Stoke-on-Trent. The motorway has major junctions with the M56 and M62 near Warrington, giving access to Chester, Manchester and Liverpool.

Why does the M6 split at Tebay?
When the M6 was built through Westmorland in the late 1960s, the Ministry of Transport were working on the principle that placing service stations in places with good views would get more people to stop. For this reason, service areas were proposed at Tebay northbound and Killington Lake southbound.
How do you avoid the M6?
In the case of the M6 Toll, the alternatives are either to use the regular M6 or the nearby A roads. However, as these are all liable to peak time congestion, the choice is often pay up or hold up. For other tolls, satnavs include an option to avoid toll roads, which will make it easier to find an alternative route.
