Who is the regulatory body for housing associations in England?
The Regulator of Social Housing promotes a viable, efficient and well-governed social housing sector able to deliver and maintain homes of appropriate quality that meet a range of needs. RSH is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities .
All local authority providers are automatically registered with the social housing regulator, ie without the need to apply. PRPSHs need to apply to register as a social housing providers and must: be English bodies. be, or intend to be, providers of social housing in England[4]

What powers does the Housing Ombudsman have?

The Regulator of Social Housing regulates registered providers of social housing in England. This function was transferred from the Homes and Communities Agency in October 2018. Until April 2012 it was performed by the Tenant Services Authority.
Does the Ombudsman really help?
An ombudsman is a person who has been appointed to look into complaints about companies and organisations. Ombudsmen are independent, free and impartial – so they don’t take sides. You should try and resolve your complaint with the organisation before you complain to an ombudsman.
Do Ombudsman get you compensation?
The Ombudsman can provide fair and proportionate remedies to complaints where maladministration or service failure has been identified. There are a wide range of proportionate remedies which include both non-financial remedies and compensation. Compensation will not be appropriate in every case.
