Can you park at York races?
Car parking – There is a plentiful supply of free car parking on all of our racedays, vehicles can be left (at the Owner’s risk) overnight and collected by 11am the following day.
Are jeans allowed at York races?
Gentlemen are required to wear a jacket, collared shirt and tie in County Stand.. A cravat may be worn instead of a tie. Most gentlemen would choose to wear smart trousers and formal shoes to complete the look. Whilst no formal restriction on wearing jeans and trainers, these are rarely seen in the County Stand.
Do you get searched at York races?
You will notice some things on arrival, notably an enhanced bag search, so to speed your entry and that of others, please plan to “travel light”. Please do not bring unnecessary bags or luggage into the racecourse. Luggage storage facilities will be provided outside of the course enclosures.
Can you take your own alcohol to York races?
Picnics are welcome in Clocktower Enclosure and alcohol for your own consumption is permitted, please no glass, BBQ’s or gazebo’s.
Can you stay overnight in York park and ride?
Overnight parking is not permitted at Park and Ride sites. Check the opening times for each site before you travel.
Can I leave my car overnight at York Park and Ride?
Can I park overnight? No, overnight parking is not currently permitted at any Park & Ride site. Several council car parks, including Moor Lane (close to Askham Bar Park & Ride), allow 24-hour pay and display parking.
Is there sniffer dogs at York races?
Working alongside North Yorkshire Police, the presence of sniffer dogs, bag searches, participation in the Pace Yourself Plus initiative, as well as monitoring of toilets, are all accepted as positive steps in addressing this challenge for wider society.
Should I wear a fascinator to the races?
A hat or a fascinator is an amazing choice for many ladies going racing – especially on a Ladies Day. This can make your outfit much more dressy and can also keep the sun out of your eyes without having to wear sunglasses. A little bag would be ideal so you don’t have to carry everything around all-day as well.
Do you need cash at York races?
The Tote has a minimum bet of just £2 and accepts cash and card across all courses making it one of the most convenient ways to place a bet on-course. Betting with the Tote at on-course supports racing, most of the revenue taken here at York flowing back to our racecourse.
Can I wear jeans to the races?
Wear whatever makes you comfortable. During the regular work week, most people at the races have on jeans and t-shirts. If you’re going on a big race day and don’t want to dress up, stick with a comfortable pair of pants and polo shirt. That goes for ladies and gentlemen.
Is there a dress code for York races?
The Grandstand and Paddock has no formal dress code and feel free to dress as you wish and feel comfortable.
Can I wear trainers to the races?
Gentleman. Although far from compulsory in all enclosures, smart dress is the accepted dress code for racegoers. Trainers and shorts are widely regarded as unacceptable, although not forbidden in some enclosures or at some meetings.
Is York expensive to drink?

What happens if you sleep in a hotel parking lot?
Don’t risk it. Next, hotels typically have private parking lots, which means that by parking there, you are on private property. If you are caught trying to sleep there without paying for a room, they could certainly kick you off the lot.
